India – A country of superstition

India has more than a million of GODS but still we have scope of some new ones. Put a stone in middle of road and just wait for a single person to stand there for a moment. Today you will see one , next day two or more and within few days or maybe hours, you will see a new god in Indian hindu’s directory. On my last trip , I went to a Hampi, a ruined City/Village in Karnataka. This place was completely ruined during a major war when all statues of Hindu gods were destroyed by muslim king. It was done so Hindu king would not be able to come back again to same place as in Hindu religion worshiping a destroyed or semi destroyed statues is prohibited.

In early morning , I went up on a hill to see sunrise and to get some shots of historical sites where I found a ruined but interesting site for my photograph. It looked like a temple but it was not a temple. It was also one of the ruined historical site on that hill top. There were a lot of similar structure on that hill but only this one has a tree in front of it. So I took out my camera and started shooting.

I liked the scene and lighting so much that I decided to wait for some human intervention in my photograph. Within few minutes I found my first character from nearby village roaming around on hill top. He went near to the site and did something unexpected. He folded his arms and started praying in front of the site which I just had captured. He definitely made my shot more interesting which I had never expected, but also made me confused . I didn’t know why a man was standing in front of ruined site and worshiping .

I was confused to see what just happened in front of my eyes. So I decided to stay a little longer on that location and waited for some more character who were also roaming in nearby places. My 2nd character was again from a nearby village but he was little curious I guess. He went near the same site and instead of worshiping or even removing his sleepers (sleepers should be removed before you go in front of god statue) he went up and started searching. I guess he might have seen the last man worshiping so he was searching the god in the ruined heritage location.

Since I have seen two character doing different actions, I could wait for little longer to check the reaction of a family who was also roaming on hill top. Or I should say it was time for my 3rd surprise . The family went there and I guess they were confused like me. Some of them went up for prayer while others were saying not to worship as its not a place of god. As I said there was a new god in Hindu directory . Half of the family were worshiping while others didn’t .

Finally I decided to go there by myself but didn’t find any statues to worship. I think village people are waiting for a educated priest to come there and make fool of the innocent villagers. Its good to believe and worship supernatural power but not blindly . Although big cities of India are seeing major Industrial changes and in middle of becoming a civilized high class society but there is still a section of rural India which will always surprise people from not only other counties but from there own country like me

  1. This is not the condition only in rural India but in major cities also. superstition psychologically reside in every hindu. from the childhood the parents the society and relatives teach these things to children and then there whole life is ridden by these superstitions. they create fear of GODs (so called gods) in their little hearts. the hindu society and pandits are corrupting people so that they can earn more money in the name of GOD and they have corrupted millions already. nobody knows anything but they believe what pandits say to them. present day of hinduism is rotten already and there is no need of hinduism at all.

    1. Yes. I completely agree that the religion is not the same as it meant to be. But I will not say there is no need of hinduism. I think there is need of bringing awareness among the people about the true hindu religion. And if you even try to do so , you will be among the list of god. So it cant be helped šŸ˜€
