Like a lot of people in this world, I have a dream to travel all around the world with my camera. But before I start exploring other countries I decided to explore my own country first and visit as many places as I can Including the 4 four tip of my country (India)
So in my last trip I visited Kanyakumari (CAPE), the southern tip of mainland India. One of the most amazing thing about this place which makes it different from any other place in the world is that water from 3 different oceans (the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea) meets here. This can be figured out by the colors of water(shades of green, blue and grey). Also , this is the only place in India where sun comes from ocean and goes into ocean. In my journey so far, this is the first time I have seen sunrise as well as sunset from the ocean and into the ocean within a distance of 1 km.
So, Is the surprise over ?. Definitely no, It was just the introduction of this place . Besides meeting point of 3 oceans , Kanyakumari is also known for the famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial located nearly 300-400 meter away from the the land in ocean . It is said that Swami Vivekananda came to kanyakumari , swam to the rock and did meditation for 3 days in last week of December. After that meditation on rock, he became a reformer and philosopher and started his journey of spreading peace in this world .
Not surprised yet?. So here is 2nd one for you . The place is also famous for Gandhi Mandapa , where ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were kept before they were immersed into sea.
The design of Gandhi Mandapa is such that the place where ashes of Gandhi ji was kept receives sun ray only on 1 day in a year (2nd October , birthday of Gandhi ji).
But these were not the places famous among local visitors or visitors from nearby places. Among local people from south India, Kanyakumari is famous of Devi Kanyakumari (virgin goddess) and this place was also named after her. Like any other city of south India , this place is also full of temples so I decided to visit them as well.
On my 2nd day of trip , I took a common tour bus which was covering 7-8 places in kanyakumari( mostly temples). It was like normal temple visit for me until I visited Suchindram Temple. The place where you are not allowed to go inside if you are wearing any t-shirt or shirt . You need to be half naked and wearing either dhotis or full jeans, otherwise you are not allowed inside. This is also famous place among local tourist. The design of this place was very old I guess, I felt like I was visiting caves of ajanta and ellora . Even smell from the wall made me felt like I was inside caves, so I guess the temple was made inside a big rock .
That is what I explored in my 2 days trip of this beautiful place. I visited this place in april which is definitely not the right time to visit this place as it will be very hot and humidity level was also very high. Best time to visit this place would be winter only. But I will consider it a must visit place in India not just because its the southern tip but to get surprised.
